D9 — the ninth divisional chart

Navamsa Chart explained

The Navamsa (D9) divides each sign of your birth chart into nine further parts. It's the most important divisional chart in Vedic astrology, used chiefly to judge marriage and a planet's true strength.

Why it matters

What the Navamsa is used for

Marriage & spouse

The D9 is the primary chart consulted for questions about marriage, partnership and the nature of one's spouse.

True planetary strength

A planet that looks weak in the main (D1) chart but strong in the Navamsa is considered to have hidden strength that emerges over time.

Vargottama

When a planet occupies the same sign in both the D1 and D9 charts, it's called Vargottama — considered a significant strengthening.

Later-life themes

Classical texts often treat the Navamsa as showing how the second half of life unfolds, complementing the D1's earlier-life picture.
