The zodiac, sidereal style

The 12 Rashis explained

Your Rashi is the sidereal zodiac sign your Moon was in at birth — in Vedic astrology it's usually more central to predictions than your Sun sign.

A common next question

Which Rashis pair well together?

Classical Vedic astrology judges compatibility by the "distance" between two Moon signs, not just gut feeling. Try our Love Compatibility tool for an instant check between any two Rashis, or see the full Kundali Matching system used for marriage.

Generally easier (1, 3, 4, 10, 11 apart)

Same element or naturally supportive distances — day-to-day life tends to flow with less friction.

Worth the effort (2, 5, 9, 12 apart)

Different priorities or pace, but workable with awareness — often deeply complementary once understood.

Needs real understanding (6, 7, 8 apart)

The most classically "different" combinations — not a dealbreaker, but compatibility here is built consciously, not assumed.

Common questions

About your Rashi

How do I find my exact Rashi?

Your Rashi depends on your Moon's exact sidereal position, which needs your date, time and place of birth. Use our free Kundali generator to calculate it precisely — date of birth alone isn't enough, since the Moon changes sign roughly every 2–2.5 days.

Is Rashi the same as "Moon sign"?

Yes — Rashi and Moon sign refer to the same thing in Vedic astrology: the sidereal zodiac sign your Moon occupied at your exact birth moment.

Can my Rashi be different from my Sun sign?

Very often, yes. They're calculated from different planets (Moon vs Sun) using different zodiac systems (sidereal vs tropical). It's normal — and expected — for the two to differ.

Does my Rashi ever change?

No. Your Rashi is fixed at the moment of birth and doesn't change during your lifetime — only planetary transits move through it, which is what Rashifal tracks.

What if two people share the same Rashi?

Rashi captures only one placement out of many in a full chart. Two people with the same Rashi can have very different Lagnas, Nakshatras, Dashas and house placements — which is why a full Kundali gives a much fuller picture than Rashi alone.
